Volunteer Webmaster for Aotearoa NZ2125
Following my attendance at Climate Action Week Marlborough in February 2024, I have lent my energies to this new project for long term agricultural planning and transition. Inspired by rural activists and entrepreneurs in the Netherlands, this home grown Kiwi effort has just begun, and we hope to secure grant funding in the near future for more progress.
Hesselridge Farm
Turning a slightly worn, somewhat overgrazed 10-acre horse property into a carbon neutral food production site. While the farm is currently occupied by wonderful caretaker-friends, I learned a lot during the years’ of work I put into it. I would estimate that I can now do journeyman-level work with plumbing and electricity, and I successfully built a complete water supply system for a new 3-bedroom house, from well to faucet.
Currently Writing . . .
A short but heartfelt book intended for the mass market, with a working title of Forward to the Land: Why Progressives Need to Reclaim Rural America Now, and Why Rich Liberals Should Help Them Do It. It presents an analysis, an argument, a guidebook—and above all, a plea—for left leaning Americans to find new ways to exert greater political power in the most radical way possible: through the soil.
Volunteering with Humanitarian Open Street Map
I discovered this amazing opportunity for GIS users to not that long ago, and I’ve started (and completed) a few projects now, including disaster preparedness mapping in Sri Lanka and flood response assistance in Brazil. I volunteer as a way to help those most impacted by climate change, for which my birth nation is most responsible.
Android App Development
I have completed coding a fully functional beta version of an app called PuppyLog. This simple app helps new puppy owners track their new pet’s house training progress, log potty breaks, etc. The app uses a cloud-based database on the back end, so logs can be shared among owners and caregivers. Planned release on Google Play Store in 2025.
